• Québec, Montréal - Association de massothérapeutes - massothérapie

What does it mean?

Definition of "Professional": any person who holds a permit issued by an order and who is entered on the roll of the latter. Source: Quebec Professional Code in chapter C-26, article 1(c).

Teachers in Quebec are not part of an order, therefore there is no such thing as a professional teacher. Orders consisting of Dentists, Doctors, Social Workers, etc. have members who can be considered professionals.

Massage therapists cannot be professionals in Quebec. They can certainly work in a professional setting and with professionalism, but it is a mistake to read Professional massage therapist. Registered Massage Therapist is ok. Licensed Massage Therapist is ok. Professional massage is ok. But not Professional Massage Therapist. It does not exist in Quebec, it's simply false misrepresentation.

If an Order were created in Quebec, then we would be able to say professional massage therapist, but only for those who are part of the order, naturally.

The problem with an Order for massage therapy is that massage therapy does not pose a danger to the public, which is one of the requirements for the creation of an Order in Quebec. AQTN demonstrated this to the government with our annex massage therapy literary review. Futhermore, 30 years of history precedes us, and clearly if liability insurance has been optional for three decades, the matter is closed: massage therapy is not dangerous.
